TestComplete: Single Browser / Multi Browser: Cross-Browser testing

I need to verify an assumption for cross-browser testing.

I have noticed between my desktop and others I work with,
I only have IE installed so my recordings and dealing with IE
are of the nature of Sys.Process("iexplore").

For another person who has IE and FireFox installed, TestComplete
recordings framework code require Sys.Browser("iexplore"), etc...

What does TestComplete look at to determine whether the Sys.Browser
method is used or not ?

Is there a Win Registry setting, an option in TestComplete to toggle for on/off?

The direction I am going with this post is running the automation framework on
a desktop with just IE vs. desktop with IE/FF, the framework gets thrown off between
    Sys.Process and Sys.Browser.

    Regards,
    JamesK
