TC hanging due to problem with compare .exe used
I will preface this by saying that I do not think that this is a TC problem. The programmer I work with and myself are about out of ideas what might cause this and I thought I'd see if anyone had any thoughts.
We are in regression testing at the moment and on both of my XP VMs, when running TC v8.1, the compare .exe (designed in-house) seems to hang in the task manager and won't close. This trips up TC as it still thinks it is waiting for the compare. We tried having the compare program create a log file and we found that the comparison is already done but it cannot seem to consistently close it. It happens randomly when comparing files during the test run. I can run it for a bit and have it fail in one place and in the next run it will zip right by and fail in another.
Occasionally, I've also gotten an error from this compare program that states "The exception unknown software exception (0xc000000d) occurred in the application at location 0.128148ff." ... but most of the time, it just hangs.
Does anyone have any ideas? I've spent a long time trying to resolve this and I'm running out of time and patience!
Re: TC hanging due to problem with compare .exe used
It looks like the problem is not related to TestComplete. When you specify a third-party utility to compare files, TestComplete just runs it with a corresponding command line parameters. The only thing I can recommend is to exclude a possible TestComplete influence to your comparison utility by filtering out the utility's process in the Process Filter Options page of your project's options ( the "Ignore selected processes" mode).
Does this help?
