Issue with TestExecute prompting to save changes
I've started noticing a new issue in our automation environment, and I haven't been able to figure this one out yet. Let me describe what we're trying to do, and what I'm seeing.
I have a project suite (written in JScript) that includes a TestedApps module. The application I have listed in TestedApps does not have any command line arguments associated with it, because most of the time I invoke it without parameters. However, there are some occasions where I need to invoke it with parameters, so I do so through script with no problems.
The problem happens at the end of the test run. Even though I have instructed TestExecute to run silently, I am being prompted to save changes due to modification of the command line parameters of TestedApps! This, of course, takes my unmanned automation environment and renders it useless, since I now have to respond to the prompt at the end of every test run.
Has anyone else seen this behavior and can advise? I suspect this is happening because my last call to the TestedApp includes command line parameters... but I can't be sure that's the cause.
Also, I deploy the test suite to my automation system directly from source control (TFS), so all of the files are write-protected. This may (or may not) be related.
Thanks for any help you can offer.
Re: Issue with TestExecute prompting to save changes
I think the Silent option will attempt to save the changes "silently". If you are getting files from source control and they are read-only, this could be why the prompt is appearing. Try get the files from source control and making them writable. This is what we do, and we don't see the problem. We are running TestExecute from a command line and checking its return value to see if any errors occurred. When we get the TestComplete files from source control we use a flag (specific to VSS) to make the files writable. We don't have the prompting issue, and our scripts do make updates to things like project variables.
Re: Issue with TestExecute prompting to save chang
Thanks for the advice, Matt! I'll give that a try and see if it works. There must be some way to do this in TFS, similar to VSS.
