Code Static Analysis tools discussions oprionions
Have been researching on
Needed automated coding standards checking
automated unit testing we are considering options to purchase a Code Static analysis tool
to cleanup/modify/port existing Java code ( C++ code additionally optional).
Currently main development is on Solaris in J2EE
The requirements are:
We are going to use tool for automated unit testing
automated coding standards checking security check up
Preferably not to be attached to particular platform or build machine i.e. install tool on a single Unix server or Windows machine and test code which might run on different platforms.
We are considering to run code trough at some
different stages of development possibly by different projects
In future if we have some MS windows development we would like to use the tool
Detailed, automatically generated reports and metrics
At different level project/package
Thnk you in advance

I have used Hammurapi very effectively while working for Adobe /Macromedia JRun.
- it comes with 100+ pre-defined inspectors
- lets you create your own
- lets you adjust severities
- lets you create baselines so that you can work only with the latest delta of violations.
