Auto-recording Web Testing
I've been a manual tester for years, but I'm new to automated testing, so please forgive me if I ask strange questions.
Does anyone know of an automated testing tool that will auto-record and test links?
Here's what we would like to do:
1.) Navigate to a web page
2.) Enter some criteria for a search
3.) Press the search button
At this point is where we would like a spidering type tool to take over.
4.) After pressing search, the next page may have 2-20 options and we would like it to exercise each option plus the links on the pages past the selected option.
The other item would be for it to use the first run as a control run. All future runs would be compared against the control run results. Any differences would need to be flagged as a possible problem.
The reason that we were hoping to have the auto-record/spidering automated is that the resulting page (after step 4) has many, many links plus a lot of text...all of which needs checked.
Thanks for any suggestions that you might have!

My suggestion would be to use an Visual Basic for applications environment when you are under windows.
For example in excel see:
