The best tool is the one that works best for you, your application and your company. You may do additional research in the Automated Testing forum near the top of the main page.

Re: Best Tool

As you can find in many topics on this forums, and as Jake pointed out, it really depends on your situation...money, experience, needs (performance, automation, integrated with support/dev tools), etc. I'm keeping a list of "cheap" rec/play tools in a thread on here, but being "cheap" they probably aren't the "best" overall. They are the best for many situations though and definitely the best bang for the buck. I assume you want a COTS rec/play tool. If you can give more details....

Re: Best Tool

If you want something that allows you to test using the same development languages, check out Ranorex. It allows testing using .NET/C#, and VC++ (ver 8+ I think).

Re: Best Tool

Ranorex is good for Windows application specially if written in .NET of VB6.

I think Ranorex support for the web has been removed.

For the web try:
WatiN or InCisif.net, if you want to stay in the C# world.

Re: Best Tool

Asking for the "Best Tool" may be dangerous when there are people around (like me) who have a vested interest in a particular solution! With great difficulty, I'll restrain myself from claiming to have the Best Tool, and merely mention that Eggplant is one of many possible solutions that can automate the testing of both web and desktop applications, no matter what language they are written in.

Re: Best Tool

Not to give anyone a big head, but I have heard that eggplant is good with .net and C++, but I have no experience. I do have some experience with wintask and it works good too. I believe Joe would concur about Wintask.

Re: Best Tool

I concur.

Since I don't believe in "best tools", I hesitate to jump into these sorts of threads.

But I use WinTask every day for testing .NET/C# web apps and desktop apps written in C++ (as well as others).

I won't say it's "best", but I can say "it works quite well for me".

You might even want to have a look at Seapines' QAWizard Pro. It is a pretty good tool for the price.

Re: Best Tool

What type of testing are you doing? GUI?

If its GUI, then I guess a tool (sigh) is needed.

Personally, try and ask youself what do I want to test. Can I test this product another way?

I stopped using tools a long time ago and now bespoke it all.
I rarely find the existing tool out there useful but they do have their uses.
