I am starting in at a new company and hoping for some help on tools I should look into. Recently I've used the Visual Studio for Testers and Spirent Avalanche, but prior to that it had been awhile since I've had a system I can use a something other than a custom built test tool.
Basically what I have here is a web application using CF.
The type of testing I am looking at focusing on is automated testing. I don't need to do heavy performance testing like the Avalanche, but being able to expand to do performance and load testing is essential as well.
The pages are things like carts, and forms, and I'd want to be able to validate the content of those pages.
Any advice on tools I should look into, or opinions on the best to use? Should I even consider looking for something specifically cold fusion or just a strong browser test tool?
I'm currently using only free tools. I guess the preferred tools for web testing are Selenium, WatiN/Watir. I'm currently using AutoIt and I'm also very happy about it.
I used to evaluate Squish and it was not too bad but I finally decided to go for free products.
(you must have a problem with your browser. The page is displayed fine)
My QA team did an evaluation of free web automated test tools some time ago. The winners were Selenium and Sahi. Both have minor problems to e.g. accept a certificate automatically but some workarounds exists. Might apply to your case as your app obviously has some kind of security.
And thanks for that addition Robert. I'll take a boo at those tools as well.
I'm perfectly fine purchasing a tool. Going to take a look at QTP and see if that suffices etc, but I wasn't sure if there were tools specifically quite strong with ColdFusion. Till poking around of course.
My goal is to try out a bunch of appy's and put together a good evaluation report on a range of tools before selecting the one that ultimately does exactly what I need and that should help to justify my costs.
