I am looking for a piece of software that will allow us to do a small 'load' test on a proprietary application. However, it is web based and the software needs to actually open a session with a browser (IE in this case) and run the test. The actualy test is for a .Net application (web based) with simply filling in some information and clicking on an accept or cancel button depending on the stage of the test.
I know that load or stress testing simulates the actions but we need the application to actually handle the forms via the web interface. We are using this test to narrow down a defect and take care of it by simulating production environment activity in a test environment.
Besides setting up five separate instances of QTP, Rational or any of the others, I have not seen any software that actually will open separate browsers for concurrent users. BTW, looking for app. 5 - 10 users max.
SilkTest can do this - you'll need as many remote Agents on PCs as you want to simulate users. In your test script, use the spawn and rendezvous to create one thread for each user, connect to that computer, and run the test on each one. At one point I was running 24 simultaneous clients with this method.
