By any chance, has anyone done a comparative survey/especially of prices of the different tools out there? I know that WinRunner, SilkTest etc are rather expensive, anyone know of cheaper tools?
I am sure you are looking for recommendations of specific tools and I can't say much there. If you can define your testing requirements with some precision there may be a free or open source tool that fits. http://www.thefreesoftware.com/http://www.opensourcetesting.org/
I have some experience with 1 commercial tool that I think is slightly less expensive. Empirix e-Test Suite is limited to Web application testing only. It's a different approach to implementing automated testing. I've gotten used to it just enought to begin to like it. I just came across a software company called Seapine Software. I really know nothing about them except that a quick scan of their advertising makes them sound like they cover much of the functionality offered by Mercury products
Hmm, I was looking to spend about $500 dollars. What I have come up with is Vermont High Test Plus, Sleuth QA, and a little more expensive is Rational Visual Test. Hmm, I sould make a post asking for comparisons between these.
