Guys, need help. I am QA manager and was asked to pick up open source automated test tool. We are small coldfusion shot with SQL server on back end. It there anything quick and easy on the market. Something easy to use, preferably with recorder. My testers have limited programming experience. Any feedback apreciated
In this case I would not recommend WET/Watir or Selenium.
1. “Something easy to use, preferably with recorder.” WATIR is not easy to use, and even if you can find a recorder (WATIRRecorder++), it cannot be compared to Winrunner/Robot recording capabilities.
2. “My testers have limited programming experience” WATIR does need programming experience, so the question is “how limited”
I have used QA Wizard in the past (not very extensively.) This tool advertised as “no programming skills required” and it cost under $1000 per license (I may be wrong). It might work for you, but you need to evaluate it by yourself.
Why I came to conclusion that it is hard to find contractor with open source test automation experience...
Well, I am in Miami. The weather and beaches are nice but it is not many experienced QAs here.
Secondly I called up to 20 people I previously worked in SF and the valley and seem that every one is expert on Silk, Mercury, or SQA robot. No one could suggest cheap automated tool for simple urls checks.
The last point is that we are coldfusion/Ajax shop and and many tools which I look do not do well with Firefox and CF.
Guys, thanks for a nice feedback. Really appreciated.
