Has anyone developed a Excel sheet for Keyword driven testing that has a drop down that allows the user to select the valid keyword and then a tooltip is displayed that shows the usage for that keyword i.e. what parameters are required.
Also I can make a drop down from a list of values in a sheet, but anyone know how to read that list from a side file (text file)
Re: Excel for keyword driven test - dynamic drop down
Nigel, I am curious about what tool you used for your Keyword driven test, some tool allows you to access data from Excel table directly. I have developed a Execl sheet for kyword driven a while ago, and it was a great improvement for test case development, even through I did not provide ToolTips to assist user about the usage of the Keyword.
Re: Excel for keyword driven test - dynamic drop d
Using Excel menu Data:Validation you can set the relevant options you are describing.
1 Create list of valid options
2 Select the range/cell for the option
3 Select Data:Validation
4 Select the required validation options
-> To get a popup, enter the "Input Message" tab details
-> To get an error message for entries that are wrong, use the "Error Alert" tab
A small sample attached. I have not used this approach within an automation framework.
