I want to test two PDF files generated using different tools. examples of tools could be Crystal Reports, Cognos, etc. Following are the few basic things which I need to check.
1. Page Layout, margin etc
2. Content layout (Positioning table, label, etc)
3. Formatting of each text, line, table border etc.
4. Content Accuracy (data should be same)
Basically wants ensure two report look alike.
Can this be done using some automation. If yes please let me which tool can be used and how to be used.
Please Note: There are tools which compare the content of PDFs but they do not test layout part. So I want a tool which can test looks of PDF as well.
Quick reply would be appreciated.
Thanks in Advance. Hope to get some useful guidance.
A few thoughts on a couple of things that you could try;
One is to automate Acrobat reader to render the PDFs to screen, and then capture and compare graphic regions from the two different outputs. Alternatively, you could get Reader to print the PDFs to file using a textual format that you can analyse, such as post script.
Another approach is to get a 3rd party reader to translate the PDF into something you can analyse more readily, like a Word, RTF or XML file. I use Solid Converter, which is cheap and will convert PDFs into these formats. See www.solidpdf.com for details. The only problem with using a translator, is that it may produce an incomplete or imperfect translation.
