i am working as software test engineer in MNC and testing manually from last 1.5 years...now we are planning to switch to automated testing...but i am able to find answers for the following question...
1. Which tool should we use? (for instance we started with winrunner 7.6)
2. How automated testing will help...eventhough scripts are nothing just testcases which we have written
3. If new module is added to the project and new functionalities then first we have to test manually for all the functionality testing..content testing...and regression testing
4. We have to spend a considerable amount to write scripts..and then we will get only scripts for limited functionalities...only which we will cover in test cases
SO i have to explain people out there that automated testing will help..definately will help...but how????
i have read lot many documents but baffled in those docs
If any one can help me out then i will be Thankfull
As philk10 says, think first about testing then about ways to improve your test efficiency.
Test automation won't solve all your problems (it may even create some). Indeed, automation is always feasible but it can be more costly than efficient manual testing.
Regarding the question about the tool to use. You have much feedback on this forum. There is no perfect tool, you'll have to choose the tool which fullfils your needs.
I'm from China,So if I make any mistakes in my English.please excuse me.
I think first which kind of tools you will choice is based on what kind of software you will test.for some C/S software winrunner would be OK.But if you want test some B/s software maybe you'd better choice QTP,if you want test the performance of a software Loadrunner will be better.
As per my knowledge we can't use single tool for all type of testing. No one tool is smart for various testing. So we have to use different tool for different test depend upon your application & requirement.
So, without knowing it we can't judge from here, which tool is better for automated testing?
First: search the web (using your application's requirements) for potential tool vendors.
Second: contact those vendors & ask them to do a proof-of-concept against your application.
Third: ask to drive the tool yourself during the demo.
Fourth: Negotiate & negotiate.
pandayu i have to test both web based and desktop based system..so i am using winrunner and to traking bugs i am using testdirector and mantis...as in my company we have started qa department now..so i have to do everything and how better i will serve it will help me and company both in many respect.
As khamar_nehal told one can't use single tool so i m learning loadrunner too for load and performance testing...
but i don't think so mgmt gonna change their decision...i have to face this and i also think(NOW) it will improve my knowledge and i hope and i have trust you all guys are there to help me out if i stuck
