Hi - I have a requirement to automate a COBOL based legacy application. Can anyone provide list of tools that I can use to automate this testing.
Also - Can I use Mercury's Winrunner or QTP for the same? If yes do I need to have terminal emulators for the same?
Looking forward for all of your help.
Assuming that you are asking about on-line screen driven legacy then Winrunner and QTP will both work as long as you have the terminal emulator add-in.
Many other softwares also work such as Compuware's Testpartner.
Compuware also have a tool specific for IBM mainframes which you might want to look at if you do not need the tool to test any client or web applications also.
I would also suggest that you break down your requirements and identify exactly what you need the automation tool to do in testing.

Hi - Thanks for your reply.
Yes I was refering to screen driven legacy system.
On the terminal emulator add-in - could you suggest me some of the Add-in's available? are there any available for free?
Go to Mercury site and/or contact Mercury - you will find the add-ins and everything else there.
As far as I know there is nothing for free. Cost will depend on your need and ability to negotiate with your Mercury representative.
In the days when I tested COBOL based Mianframe I use to use :
May be worth a look.
