I have been asked to prepare automation feasibility document. can anybody tell me what are things I should cover while preparing automation feasibility study?
I have done little workout and following are pionts which i planning to include in automation feasibility document.
1. No. Of external interfaces
2. Efforts needed for Automation
3. When to start automate testing
4. Selection of Tools
which are other points i should cover while preparing the document ?
1.) Number of manual tests already written which can be automated.
2.) Cost of tool.
3.) Who will automate the projects, (Must be skilled at tool and have experience otherwise you risk failure).
4.) Cost per man/hour for scripting.
5.) Projected ROI by automating, this can be determined by number of tests in your regression test suite and lenght of time to run manually.
6.) Support from manual testers to keep the manual scripts updated.
7.) support from upper management as it will take 6 - 8 months to develope something really usefull.
8.) List of projects to be automated and type of tools needed for each.
9.) Risk factors by using current resources that are pulled off of current and future projects.
My friend the list goes on and on. You have to draw a line and say, this is the most I can do for now. Good Luck.
Success is the ability to go from one failure to another with no loss of enthusiasm.
