My company is considering to get an automated testing tool. We have a choice between QTP and TestCompelete.
TestComlete is obviously very cheap, and can do what is required. But I think there's a lot of up frond efford to be made before constructing test cases, such as code to manipulate test data, and control ID's.. etc.
With QTP, everything is done for you. So we can just construct the test cases straight away.
So just some questions, what is so good about QTP that it is 20 times more expensive than TestCompelete?
Is it 20 times more better, in terms of man hours you spent constructing test cases?
Are there anything in TestCompelete, thats similiar to the following functions in QTP: Object Repository, Spreedsheet Test Database, Automated Comments... etc.
Thanks for your help!!
I can't answer your question about why QTP is more expensive - however I would ask you if you have used both tools yourself in a proof of concept to come to the conclusions that QTP does everything faster and easier or are you just basing this on the Sales persons presentation.
If you have not already done an on site Proof of Concept I would recommend that you do this to prove what you have been told.
When I have evaluated tools I have found that during a proof of concept the things that look so easy during a sales presentation do not work as well or as easily when I use them.
I have been using TestCompelete before, now just introduce to Mercury tool. I foound QTP is definitely easier to use, and it saves a lot time on pretest setup and coding. But it just do not justify the price.
