compare SilkPerformer and OpenSTA
Hi iam new to this QA.Actually i want to the advantages and disadvantages of using SilkPerformer and OpenSTA other than the cost issue.Waiting to hear the full comparison study between their usage, final reports etc..
Re: compare SilkPerformer and OpenSTA
I have used both tools. SilkPerformer is MUCH more robust in terms of functionality. It has support for more protocols (OpenSTA can only handle http), a better and more complete scripting language and function library, much better and more detailed reporting and monitoring tools, etc.
However, that being said, it is extremely expensive and the way Segue does licensing is really a hassle. For doing some very large tests (thousands of VU's), it can almost be unrealistic to model the load with SilkPerformer. On the other hand, OpenSTA is open-source and 100% free! Its really a nice tool. It doesnt have nearly as many features, but it has a highly scalable load generation engine and can be used to handle most HTTP based load and performance testing.
