    Perl automation

I was asked to look into testing an snmp agent, and was thinking of using perl scripts to do the automation testing with. Right now I think we will need 200-300 test case or scripts to test this thing out. I was thinking of using perl for our automation testing. Does anyone know of a test harness that we can use to launch all of these scripts from? Right now we need to do this testing on unix, but we might also need to do this testing on a windows box latter.
    Thanks,
    Joe

    Re: Perl automation

Why don't you write functions or methods instead, and have one perl engine driving the entire thing? Once the base pieces are done, then create a module that will read a file, parse through it and executes different functions and passes values to it based on test file. That way, you have one test engine, and create different test files based on what types of tests you want to do.

A search in cpan.org for "harness" shows 3 or 4 different modules that are available for test harnessing. I can't say that I've used any of them.

Send me an e-mail some time. I would like to get into a cross-platform test tool discussion with you.
