Roles Based Testing & a Framework

The "key word" approach to testing (when done properly) separates out the Roles of testing (Design, Build, Execute, and assess) into clearly defined task - deliverables. The other nice thing about the "key word" approach is that it separates (as much as possible) the implementation from the Test Case - therefore if the Tool dies (i.e. Seque SilkTest looks to be on the critical list) then "all" you have to rebuild is the automation side. There are two excelent products out there today that address the challenge of UI (user interface) testing using the "Key Word" approach - Certify by Worksoft; and Unified TestPro by SDT. Unified TestPro does have the advantage of being able to handle Embedded and API testing as well (using the same Framework). Anyone interested in getting significant return on their automation testing investment (ROI) should look into this approach - it really does work!

Dunno what did you mean by this."therefore if the Tool dies (i.e. Seque SilkTest looks to be on the critical list) then "all" you have to rebuild is the automation side."

I thought Silk Test is coming out with a new version.

Certainly SilkTest is coming out with a new version - I'm just looking at the company Seque, not the Tool. Hopefully, if the company does "fade away" another vendor will pick-up the tool.
