Automating an Integration to an External System
We are working with a software package that has the ability to create purchasing transactions like PO's, receipts and invoices. The system also has the ability to receive the above transactions from an external system. These transactions can be also come from both systems; for example:
PO created in System 1
Data received in System 2
Receipts and Invoice created in System 2
Data verfied in System 1
We are able to manually test this procedures but would like to automate, if possible.
Has anyone had experience with a challenge like this? If so, any resources (testing tools, books, organizations, etc..) that could be recommended would be appreicated.
Re: Automating an Integration to an External System
It's not hard to do if you use test automation software that can operate remotely.
A few years back I used a tool called the Automated Test Facility (ATF) to do these types of tests. It was made by a company called Softbridge, but they are no longer in business. They had a Controller and Agents. The scripts actually ran on the Controller machine, but the execution occurred through the remote Agents. It made testing multiple-machine scenarios such as you describe quite simple.
I think Silk can do this, but I haven't used it.
