When I heard her speak I don't feeling as if I was in a sales demo. I was (and am) very impressed with her knowledge.
Linda is a good speaker. Michael Sowers I have not heard yet. So my response is one sided.
Linda's presentations at conferences are more about the test automation process (why do it and what to expect in reality) and the testing framework she has used over the past years. She has worked with different tools and implemented the automation framework, so she speaks from a broad perspective. I think you will find her talk to be a good one.
As far as her hocking her tool (Certify), she doesn't really say much about it (at least in the tutorial session I attended at STARWest 2001). Also, Linda has been around for a very long time. She is a pioneer in this field. She is one of the original founders of Software Recording Inc., aka Autotester (for those of you from the DOS days). So she has a wealth of knowledge to pull from.
That is about it. Like I said this is one sided and I have not heard Michael Sowers (yet). So take it at face value.
