We have been using Rational Robot and WinRunner for testing. The boss wants to switch to QARun. From what I've been able to find out, they (WinRunner and QARun) look very similar. Will the switch be easy? We have found using WinRunner easy. Anybody use both? Can you tell me what big differences we can expect?
WinRunner was very successful. New client already has QARun. Am looking for insight on the learning curve. Boss wants to know if we will be able to just start using QARun based on our knowledge of WinRunner.
Maureen, I hope you don't mind if I chime in here. I have similar questions regarding our own test environment. I read through Ray's document and thought it was extremely helpful in narrowning my choices, but I thought I'd throw the question out there to see what recommendation you might have as to which tool you'd use with a Windows 2000 Server envirment with jdk 1.3 client/server platform and oracle database.
I did an evaluation of both Mercury Interactive's WinRunner and Compuware's QARun. Each eval took about 30 days (part time). In my opinion, WinRunner has much more flexibility. If your app is client/server based, you're better off with WinRunner.
We have been using QARun for some time and it is a very user friendly tool, support is wonderful and scripts are easy to modify.
Winrunner is a good tool but more complicated for new testers.
If you have been using Winrunner for some time and have several versions of test scripts for regression, changing tools will be a major challenge. We switched a project from Rational to QARun.
I am located in MO as well, if you have additional questions, contact me at email@example.com
