A question of great debate. Every where you look you find different answers. So basically my answer is, what do you or your company think the difference is. They are what you make them.
I know this doesn't really answer your question, so I will tell you how they are defined in my company.
Load test: A test which determines if an application or system can handle a predefined number of users, or amount of data.
Stress Test: A test designed to apply an unusually large amount of users or data to an application or system with the intent to find its breaking point or performance problems.
Performance Test: An established number of users or data applied to an application or system to determine the stability or performance over time.
Hope this helps. But keep in mind everyone uses slightly different definitions. You need to find one that works for you and your company.
