    Re: Shareware

Load: Microsoft's WAST. Best thing out there that I've seen for Windows. Also, saw opensta for the first time on this site and it looks good as well.
Functional/http testing: Perl. Has good database interface, and http calls. Not to mention 'almost' everything under the sun including CGI interface for report generation and integration with build.
GUI: Microsoft's scripting. It's the only thing that'll get you GUI access for free, but very limited.

For functional Web-Testing I like really like this tool. http://www.w3runner.com
Though it supports only Internet Explorer.
If you like Visual Basic or VBScript you will like this tool.
There is no time limitation in the trial release.

    ericserrot,

You have recently begun replying to each and every post with "use w3runnner", whether it answers the original question or not. I can only assume you are employed by the company.

This post asks about shareware, another asked about free tools.
Is w3runner free? Is it shareware?

Please read the FAQs for this site before posting and refrain from spamming QAForums with what are essentially ads for your tool. If you intend to reply to a question, please answer the question posed.

    This is shareware?
It certainly doesn't say that on your website.

    Re: Shareware

WAST and OpenSTA are *fine* alternatives if you're trying to avoid a cost prohibitive solution. I would even say they might be superior if you plan to teach new people about the disciplines of automated load (specifically) and other automated (generally) testing.

I want to thank all who replied to my search for a good shareware automated test tool.

My search was motivated by a need for a test tool that I could use in teaching Software Test Automation at a prominent university in a Boston suburb this summer. Purchasing a single copy of SilkTest or WinRunner may prove to be prohibitive, thus my search began.

It sounds more and more like a proven software test automation is the way to go, regardless of the cost.

Again, many thanks for your replies.

    Re: Shareware

    Sure,

You can get limited trial-ware from Mercury's Astra, and Rational has similar thing with 50 user restrictions.

But for real, guys that run performance test here run in 2.5k increments. 50 user is just to show you what you can do. 20 user is a joke, and I wouldn't even bother wasting time downloading it.

Go with WAST, or OpenSTA. Try it out, and see if it pays off. If so, get a budget and figure out what to do from there.
