Need advice on automated test systems
I am in charge of automating a medium sized test lab for an optical networks company. Right now we do everything manually except for signal loads that can be programmed on the test equipment itself. What I need is a program that allows me to integrate script commands from our product with the optical test equipment. The ultimate goal is being able to power on all the equipment, push "Go", let the software intialize, run all the test suites, and come back the next morning with a nice set of results.
Right now we have an old copy of Test Expert and a newer copy of Lab View, neither of which I know very much about right now. I have seen very little written about Test Expert or Lab View in this forum.
I have just begun researching this so I could use opinions on these utilities or any other utilities that people recommend over these. I could also use information on other resources that will help me research this.
Any and all opinions are very much appreciated. Thanks ahead of time.
Re: Need advice on automated test systems
You're going to want a tool that can be expanded upon and has a language that is flexible/powerful enough to integrate with what you are currently running. I've have worked on a couple of projects where we took a tool in to automate the old test tool and things worked out very well. This sounds similar to what you want to do. Especially where you want to push 'Go' and walk away from it and have it not only perform the tests, but produce some custom reports that will give you the information you are looking for. If you want information about how we went about this or if you are interested in getting some help doing this project, e-mail me.
