Suggest a Open Source Tool for a project
Please help me in suggesting a Automation Tool that i can use for my project. I work for an agile methodology Company so we need to test the application whenever there is a build(mostly weekly once r twice). I am working on telecommunication domain. (Work order management Project). Thanks in advance.
The tool you use isn't going to depend on your industry or process. What matter the most is it works with your application, which you haven't mentioned anything about the technology stack.
you need to specify the application type also .web or standalone.
Sorry for the delayed reply. i am working in the .Net application. We need the tool for regression testing since we have to deploy the requirements every week or in a 2 weeks time. please suggest. it is a .web application used in intranet.
For a web application. Most web automation tools will work. If you have silverlight applets you may need to go with a heavier weight all in one tool (which most aren't open source), but if it's just HTML/JS applications on the front end, most web automation tools will work.
Tools that come to mind are,
Selenium - http://docs.seleniumhq.org/ (probably easiest to use in a .net shop since they have C# bindings)
Watir - http://watir.com/
Canoo Webtest - http://webtest.canoo.com/webtest/man...bTestHome.html
Capybara - https://github.com/jnicklas/capybara
There are a number of others. Selenium is probably the most common. Watir is popular in Ruby shops. Canoo use to be popular in Java shops, Capybara is popular in the ruby on rails world.
On the unit testing side,
Karma / Jasmin (http://karma-runner.github.io/0.10/index.html) is a pretty good framework that works well with CI and build integration.
TestSwarm / Quit (http://swarm.jquery.org/) is pretty good for cross browser support
