Re: Automation tool for agile testing

Thank you Corey. The reason why i asked this question is...recently i found out that there are automation tools that are coming up targeting agile development.

Are there are tools that will be able to handle/accommodate frequent changes in the requirements or is it entirely up to the tester to design test cases in such a way that it handles the requirement changes.

because vendors need to sell products or services and will happily stamp them with any buzzword.

Re: Automation tool for agile testing

When you invoke the words "agile" and "testing" in the same sentence, my immediate reaction is to ask you whether you have read the Crispin/Gregory book "Agile Testing". There are approximately 70 pages that deal specifically with test automation...and of those 70 pages, 5 pages are devoted to tool selection. It's a very solid read.

And when you ask for the "best automation tool", you probably need to spell out some requirements so you can start thinking about what "best" might mean. It's like asking what the "best computer" or "best car" is. Without evaluation criteria, you won't have any way to measure one against another.

Lastly, what is best for one organization/project/team/individual may not be the best for another. And for the record, where I work, we've been using Watir for three years or so with some good success.

Re: Automation tool for agile testing

While I have not read the Crispin/Gregory book "Agile Testing", we have successfully implemented test automation in an Agile environment using tools like TestComplete, SilkTest, and QTP. As Corey stated, many tool vendors will happily slap on any buzzword that they can use to sell their products and services.

It's not the tool but the design of your test cases and framework, and where you choose to focus your test development efforts.

Re: Automation tool for agile testing

We just used Selenium for .NET application automation (on Cruise control .net continuous integration server). So just enough to automate web UI user stories besides functional in code behind

Easy to prepare tests and so on...
