How early is too early to start creating automated test scripts for a SAP solution?
We're implementing a new SAP logistics solution (SD, MM, WM, FICO, PI). From a test perspective we're utilising Solution Manager integrated with HP Quality Centre, QTP and TAO.
Our test methodology is planned to be (roughly) 60% effort on Functional Unit Testing by the functional consultants in the Dev environment, followed by 40% Integration Testing of the completed solution in the Test environment.
Ideally, by the time we get to the Integration test phase I would like to have a large percentage of our scenarios covered by automated test scripts.
Is this feasible in a large-scale and complex SAP implementation? How soon is too soon to start automating our scenarios? Stability of the system building blocks will be key, but does anyone have any war stories to tell about automating the testing of a SAP system?
I have worked for Oracle Financials and HCM Test automation area, for more than one implementations we usually got into the automation mode when the implementation has atleast covered one round of SIT or ST phase.
