I am working as a automation engineer for the past three years in web environment. I was using QTP 8.2 and 9.2 versions up to last October. Due to some license issues and cost cutting implementation we migrated to Watir.
Before that i had a bad opinion about open source tools. But now i had changed myself. Compare with QTP , Watir has more advance features. i was suggested here to choose watir in my earlier posts. Thanks to all.
Ok let me come to the issue, still i am working in web environment only. I do not have any experience in Windows application. In my project some embedded windows forms to be checked. but its not possible in Watir.
So guys please suggest a good open source tool to automate some tasks in windows application.
I have searched in earlier posts and found a clue about autoIT, if any tools are available please refer.
You should really define a little more about the Windows app you plan on testing. Such as is it .NET (with/without specialized 3rd party control sets), Java, C++, MFC... etc...
I think that will help people give you more of an idea. For example, I have used AutoIt with good success in a .NET AUT for STANDARD .NET controls, but all the 3rd party controls were not recognized and we note automateable with AutoIT.
Hi, I suggest looking into using the Ruby's Win32API library. You've been working with Watir so it be a good fit. Also check out the book "Scripted GUI Testing with Ruby" by Ian Dees. It covers Window applications.
Lastly, if you install AutoIt you should be able to use their methods via a Ruby script. See the AutoIt documentation.
