is this automation test tool still good to use??

if the automation test tool can't recognize quite a lot of the objects in the AUT. shall we decide to look for alternative?
since we are not big software testing consultancy, so we don't have comprehensive set of software testing tools.

we can buy or write ourself for the add-on/proxy, but it costs some resources and money. and will till not totally resolve the problem.

perhaps excluding these related tests from automation is the last step we can do unfortunately.
or these related tests will be only tested in high level (by using some tricky way)

just want to how should we make the decision when we encounter this kind of issue?
    thx

If your test tool cannot recognize many objects in your application, and you are not able to find sufficient workarounds, then it sounds like the tool doesn't meet your needs.

In order to fully realize the benefits of automation a firm commitment to "doing it right" is needed. If you are just playing around with the idea, then you are most likely wasting your time and efforts. To do it right you need to find the right tool, make a purchase, then contract an expert with the tool to come in and get you going in the right direction. This takes commitment in the form of resources and money. Automation is an extremely useful methodology if it's potntial is recognized. But it ain't magic, it takes a lot of dedicated work.

What type of objects are they, i.e. vendor, name, etc.? Sometimes there are proprietary objects few of the typical capture/playback tools can recognize, and you'd have to use "other" ways of automating.

    Thanks

i am just trying to recognize some dotnet v2 objects i.e. datagridview and menustrip in rational robot.
i do know that robot successor RFT does solve this, but not sure at all or not.

has anyone working at the same dotnet v2 object as me but using other tools flawlessly?
can let me know what are they?
