I've just started to use ACT to perform some load testing of a web portal, however I'm failing at the first hurdle!
ACT has apparently installed successfully, however when I go to capture my first script using the record facility it doesn't work.
I have entered the proxy details from my web browser into the project properties proxy settings however when the browser launches and I try to navigate to a URL I'm getting the error message shown bellow:
Reason code from outgoing connection =0x05
If I try and navigate to the URL from outside of ACT then I can access it successfully.
ACT obviously changes the browser proxy settings to localhost on port 8181 but I was hoping by setting the project properties that would be sufficient?
I'd appreciate any help that anyone can provide.
Any advise regarding ACT or comments as to how successful load testing using it have been would also be appreciated.
I believe that you cannot record in ACT through a proxy, or via SSL. Our company has a non-ssl, internal server for QA, so I'm able to record tests there. You can then RUN that script against a SSL server through a proxy.
The way that ACT records your script is by setting up a temporary proxy on localhost, to intercept all traffic.
Even though ACT supports running your script through a proxy, it recommends against this, as that creates another potential bottleneck, even before you encounter the web application. This is a quote from the help file:
"Use fast network components and avoid using HTTP proxy servers. Stress testing relies on increasing load levels until the Web server or Web application becomes the bottleneck and prevents further increases. If any part of the system is slower than the Web server or Web applications, it will be impossible to measure the maximum capacity of the Web server or Web applications. Increasing the test load levels will not solve this problem. "
